Exploris Stars Shine on Expressions Day
by Loren
Students showcased a diverse array of talents at Exploris's annual Expressions Day held at the Good Sheppard Church on Thursday, December 12th. As thanks and a part of Exploris's mission to serve the community, a food drive was held for the Good Sheppard Church. Students arrived with food donations or monetary donations to support the church's Sheppard's table. Student stars sang, danced, told jokes, played instruments, and performed karate demonstrations. Behind the scenes, Global Arts teacher Eugene and 7th graders Armaan, Hamza, and Jack managed the technical needs of the performances.
Seventh graders Colton, Allison, and Sam hosted the show until 8th graders Annie, Tess, and Anna arrived late and invoked "an 8th grade tradition" as reason to take over. Their jokes and costumes kept everyone laughing while acts transitioned. Some unique performances stood out: the electric violin played by Julia J., Zach’s karate demonstration with a bow staff, and Celina singing “I Do Adore” while playing the ukelele. Ahmad also received big applause as he reprised a remixed performance of “The Pickle Dance” and “The Pickle Song.” |
Exploris’s chorus performed to close the show with a singalong. Several chorus students performed solos and Jillian and Bianca accompanied with “singing” glasses.
Many parents, grandparents, and other relatives along with students and teachers celebrated the brave students who had the courage to perform. “My favorite part (of Expressions Day) is how brave and supportive the kids are. It's unusual to see the positive support from all the kids at this age,” shared Exploris parent Christina Ward. Other students were inspired by their peers to showcase talents at the next Expressions Day. “Now that I know what it is, I might try out next time,” said 6th grader Rory after watching all the performances. Summer Clayton, Director of Exploris, praised all of the student performers and the audience members for the success of another Expressions Day. Check out the slide show below. Apologies to any performances not included. I ran out of space on my drive! |
