No Talking
By Ahmad
I am Ahmad, a reporter for The Exploris Planet and I do crazy stuff, then write about my experience for each issue of the newspaper. This was my first week and I tried not to talk for two whole days. Can you imagine?
The thing is, I talk a lot. But now, my communication was paper and pencil. I started Monday, November 18 during lunch and the first five minutes was brutal. Every single person I know was trying to make me talk. Then, it came time to work as a group. We were doing a science experiment and it was not easy. My friend kept telling me to talk. He got pretty angry. Our task was calculating the time and distance of a ball rolling. My group did a miscalculation and I could not say anything, so I had to write it down. They did not understand what I wrote, but eventually everything turned out okay. |
Plus, it was so hard to get a teacher’s attention. Every time I had a question I would have to write it down. Being unable to speak got pretty annoying with friends, and getting the teacher’s attention. At home silence was not difficult when I was just hanging in my room, because all I did was study and watch TV.
The next day, after twenty-one hours, I broke. I just had to speak to someone and my friend knew it. All he did was poke me and say, “Talk, Talk, Talk.” During class I was pushed to my limit so I whispered to him, “Stop.” It went downhill from there. After class everyone came up to me and taunted, “You talked, you talked.” It drove me nuts. I was a little disappointed at myself, because I talk so much in my life, and I thought I could do it. I guess I need a little more time. What will I do next? Will it be eating just cereal for five days or no technology for three? I guess you will just have to read all about it! |
